In addition to the top prize, there are second and third place prizes.
The winning entry will be used in a national campaign later this year to promote Positive Ageing Week 2010. “Older people often suffer from the negative stereo-type that they are ill, frail and are a drain on society. But the reality is very different,” said Robin Webster of Age Action. “Older people are often at the heart of communities, as volunteers in sports and social organisations, as grand parents looking after children, and as pillars of society who have contributed so much in the past and continue to contribute.”
“We are hoping that this competition will encourage the public to view older people in a new light and recognise the important role they play in our communities.”
The contest is open to all levels of photographers, young and old.
Photographs can be either hard copy or digital. If you are submitting a hard copy photograph by post, please ensure that it is accompanied by a completed Application Form, a Portrait Consent Form and if you are under the age of 18, a Parent Consent Form, all of which are attached along with the Terms & Conditions of the competition.
The closing date for entries is Friday 7 May 2010.
